Nepal: Four Dead, Over Ten Injured in Mirik Road Accident

Four people died, and more than ten were injured when a passenger vehicle from Kakarbhitta in Nepal to Mirik fell off the road at Nol Dada village near Mirik this afternoon. The driver survived. The vehicle fell about 100 feet below the road. Many passengers were going to visit their relatives to celebrate Bhai Tika tomorrow.

Local villagers started rescue work soon after the accident. Later, Mirik police and the fire department reached the spot and helped take the injured to safety. Earlier, on October 4th, a big landslide damaged several roads, including the steel bridge over the Dudhe Balasan River. Since then, the Nol Dada road has been used as an alternative route. But this road is narrow, steep, and has many sharp turns.

Locals said that many accidents have happened here before. They have demanded the completion the new bridge over the Dudhe Balasan River soon so that vehicles can use the main road again.
