Nepal: Devotees throng Pashupatinath temple to offer prayers during Shravan

In the Holy month of Shravan, according to the Bikram Samvat calendar, observed in Nepal, today is the first Somvari Vrat, when Shiva devotees fast and offer water and belpatra to the Shivling for the fulfilment of their wishes. Pashupati Nath is a UNESCO Heritage site, a popular worship destination for Shiv devotees and the culmination point of Tantrik practices in the Hindu religion. During the Sharvan month, the Pashupatinath temple witnesses a huge crowd.  Various aahrams, religious sects, and civil societies organised different Havans and yagyas in various zones under the Pashupati Area Development Authority. Devotees bought belpatra, Rudraksha mala, and a water kalash to offer to the Shivling. The entire Temple premise is thronged with devotees not only from Nepal and India but other countries. Musicians are playing traditional instruments, filling the air with bhajan and music. At many places, devotees, young and old, are seen carelessly dancing to the music. In many zones, devotees are found engrossed in listening to spiritual gurus speak on religious scripts and stories. Decoration with flowers and various religious motifs and props is eye-catching. 30 feet high Rudraksha Shivling attracts devotees, where visitors are delighted to take selfies. 1000 Kalash puja and 108 Shivling puja have been organised in the Shravan month in Pashupatinath Temple premises.
