National Commission for Women (NCW) organized a conference with Director General of Police and senior police officers in New Delhi today. During the meeting, Chairperson of NCW, Vijaya Rahatkar, emphasized on the need for regular Gender Justice Review Meetings to ensure accountability and sensitivity in police functioning. She highlighted the need of timely FIR registration in women-related offences, and enhanced representation of women in police recruitment. Ms Rahatkar also highlighted the importance of research-based and data-driven policing to identify regional trends in crimes against women and to design targeted interventions.
The conference was organised to review and discuss the effective mechanism for the disposal of grievances of women and measures to strengthen their safety and security.
