NCB seizes over 1.33 lakh kg narcotics worth ₹1,980 crore in 2025

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized over 1 lakh 33 thousand kilograms of narcotic drugs worth around 1 thousand 980 crore rupees in the year 2025. The NCB said it arrested 994 drug traffickers, including 25 foreign nationals, in 447 cases during the year. Meanwhile, 265 drug offenders were convicted in 131 cases in 2025. Of them, 39 were awarded the maximum sentence of 20 years.

To further strengthen its prosecution framework, NCB institutionalised a robust system for monitoring trial cases at the Zonal, Regional, and Headquarters levels. The Bureau highlighted that this focused approach led to a rise in the conviction rate to 66.8 per cent in 2025, as compared to 60.8 per cent in 2024. NCB destroyed over 77 thousand 700 kilograms of narcotic drugs in 2025, valued at around 3 thousand 889 crore rupees.

The NCB said 37 Interpol notices were issued against fugitive drug traffickers, and the agency achieved success in getting 5 fugitives deported to India. The agency also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to strengthen cooperation in the field of awareness against drug abuse in CBSE-affiliated schools. Over 140 schools have been identified for awareness programmes, and 55 such programmes have already been organised under this collaboration.
