The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has achieved the conviction of 219 drug traffickers in 103 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases so far this year. The Bureau has been making consistent efforts to ensure the successful prosecution of drug traffickers across the country, aiming to safeguard society from the menace of narcotics.
Recently, NCB Chandigarh secured the conviction of a drug trafficker in connection with a 2021 heroin seizure from the Indo-Pakistan border area. A Special NDPS Court in Fazilka convicted Gurpreet Singh, sentencing him to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹1.5 lakh under various sections of the NDPS Act. The case pertains to the seizure of over 5.9 kg of heroin in 2021 from the border area.
In another significant judgment, a Special NDPS Court in Barabanki sentenced Azad, a drug trafficker, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹1 lakh in connection with the seizure of 2.7 kg of charas in 2022.
