Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has asserted that assembly elections in Tamil Nadu will be setting a record much better than Bihar. In an interaction with the media today in Chennai, the Chief Election Commissioner said that Tamil Nadu has shown the way in percentage of voting every time the state faced elections. Replying to a question, he said that online nomination facility is available through the election commission website. But as per law filing of nomination can be done physically.
He said that extra effort will be taken to encourage young voters between the age group of 18 to 30 years to come in large numbers and participate in the festival of democracy. In another query, regarding the flow of money and the difficulties faced by small traders, he said that unaccounted large amount of money will be frozen and seized.
He appealed to the small traders not to carry money which is beyond permissible limits. With regard to the political parties he said that detailed discussions were held with members of all political parties as they have suggested for a single phase of election. He said that their suggestions will be taken into account. He said that the number of female voters is higher than the male voters in Tamil Nadu.
The CEC also said that the vulnerable section of people will be given adequate care for voting in the polling booth. Regarding the SIR process, he said that it was a great success in Bihar and the basic revision is to ensure cleaner rolls to avoid the names of people who are dead or migrated to other places. Earlier, Mr Kumar felicitated to the first time voters and one divyang jan icon to encourage youngsters to come and vote voluntarily.
