Nation is celebrating 19th statistics day today. Every year this day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, who was a pioneer in the field of statistics and economic planning. The theme for this year is 75 Years of National Sample Survey. A programme was organised in New Delhi to mark the statistics day.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Rao Inderjit Singh said that in today’s data driven world, statistics is the cornerstone of evidence based governance. He highlighted that the consistent execution of large scale methodologically sound surveys within the strict timelines stands as a testament to the capacity, responsiveness and professionalism of the country’s statistical system.
On the occasion, a commemorative coin and customized my stamp was released to commemorate 75 years of the National Sample Survey along with several important statistical publications.
