Nation remembers Shaheed Udham Singh on 86th Martyrdom Day

The grateful Nation is paying homage to its great revolutionary, Shaheed Udham Singh, on his 86th martyrdom day, today. Belonging to the Ghadar Party and Hindustan Socialist Republic Association (HSRA), he assassinated Michael O’Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of British Punjab, on 13 March 1940 in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a social media post, said he pays a humble tribute to the immortal son of Mother India, Shaheed Udham Singh, on his martyrdom day. The tale of his patriotism and bravery will always remain a source of inspiration for the countrymen.

A state-level programme to remember him is being organised at his native place, Sunam, in Sangrur district of Punjab. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini have paid floral tributes to the great martyr. Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, has said that Shaheed Udham Singh’s fearless act of justice serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices that laid the foundation of our nation. Meanwhile, a one-hour special school assembly dedicated to honouring the life and legacy of Shaheed Udham Singh has been organised in Chandigarh schools.
