Narendra Jadhav committee presents three-language policy for schools in Maharashtra

The Narendra Jadhav committee, set up last year to frame a three-language policy for schools in Maharashtra, has submitted its report to the state government. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the report will be placed before the state cabinet for discussion. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai today, CM Fadnavis said the government will take a decision on which recommendations to accept or modify after detailed deliberations. However, he did not disclose the contents of the report. The multi-member committee, headed by economist and educationist Narendra Jadhav, was set up to finalise the implementation of the three-language policy for schools in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The panel was formed after protests over a government resolution making Hindi a compulsory third language in Classes 1 to 5, which was later withdrawn and replaced with an amended order making Hindi optional. The committee was tasked with suggesting a balanced approach to the three-language formula in the state’s school education system.
