Nagaland police seized drugs worth more than 118 crore rupees over the last year. Inspector General of Police (CID) Vikram Khalete stated this during a press conference in Chumoukedima yesterday while providing an update on state police’s efforts in combating drug trafficking. He said, in 2024, a total of 199 cases were registered, and 343 individuals were arrested in connection with drug-related offences.
The operation resulted in the recovery of large quantities of various illegal substances, including ganja valued at 2.7 crore rupees, opium valued at 47.5 crores, heroin worth 53.2 crores, brown sugar worth 7.9 crores, and crystal meth valued at 4.1 crores, besides large quantities of Yaba, synthetic drugs, and cough syrup.
Mr. Khalete emphasised that the drug trafficking network extends beyond Nagaland, with links to neighbouring states, particularly Assam, and other parts of India. He assured that investigations into the interstate and international connections of these drug cartels are ongoing.
