Nagaland: massive landslide due to incessant rain, road link cut off

In Nagaland, following incessant rainfall, a massive landslide completely cut off National Highway-2 near Kisama, under Kohima district, severing the Nagaland-Manipur road link. The road stretch completely collapsed today, prompting authorities to shut down the route indefinitely for vehicular movement. Adequate personnel have been deployed to monitor and regulate movement along the alternate routes. In Kiphire district, a swelling river washed off the vital link road between Mimi and Pungro, forcing residents to resort to a makeshift bamboo bridge for commuting.
Meanwhile, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall are expected in several parts of the state, posing risk of flash floods. This is likely to affect watersheds and neighborhoods in low-lying areas, with potential of surface runoff and inundation in areas with fully saturated soil.
