Nagaland achieved nearly 95% household tap water coverage under Jal Jeevan Mission

Nagaland has achieved nearly 95% household tap water coverage under the Jal Jeevan Mission. According to the State Public Health Engineering Department, over 345000 households across the state have been connected under the Mission, adding that certain blocks have already achieved 100% functional household tap connections.

One thousand 258 villages in the state, or 88%, have been declared ODF Plus under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen). Chairing the meeting, Governor Nand Kishore Yadav highlighted key challenges such as depleting water sources, funding constraints, and maintenance issues. He stressed the need for sustainable water management, timely implementation of projects, and stronger community participation.

The Governor emphasised rainwater harvesting as a sustainable solution to address water shortages, particularly in urban and water-stressed areas.
