In Manipur, the Emergency Diaries, a book in which the Prime Minister Narendra Modi recounts the experiences during the 1975 Emergency as a young RSS worker, was released by the former Chief Minister and State BJP leader N. Biren Singh. The book releasing program was held at the office of State BJP in Imphal on Saturday in which party leaders were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Biren said that the occasion also serves to remember a time when democratic rights were suspended in India and described the Emergency as a dark chapter in the political history of India. While replying to the question of a mediaperson, the former Chief Minister said that the ground situation of Manipur has improved and no communal violence has been witnessed in the last seven to eight months indicating a gradual return to peace and normalcy.
He also appreciated the continued efforts of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to bring normalcy in Manipur and expressed hope that the central leadership is likely to assess the conditions of the State to facilitate the return of an elected government.
