Mumbai will host the Earthshot Prize 2026 – the world’s most prestigious and impactful environmental award in November this year. The multi-day celebration of environmental leaders who are delivering bold solutions for the planet Earth will come to India for the first time. The announcement was made at a special event during the ongoing Mumbai Climate Week.
The Earthshot Prize was founded by Britain’s Prince William in 2020 to spark the spirit of collective ambition and action to save planet. This year’s prize will shine a global spotlight on 15 groundbreaking environmental solutions, under five categories including Protect and Restore Nature, Clean our Air, Revive our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix our Climate.
In a statement, Prince William said India, with the largest population of young people in the world, is one of the world’s most important forces for climate and nature. He added that there is a real sense of momentum in India – to not only imagine a better future but to inspire change and make it a reality.
Expressing pride that Mumbai will host the prestigious award, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said sustainability and climate action remain top priorities for Maharashtra, and the Earthshot Prize will create global attention for India’s leadership and commitment to turning goals into meaningful action on the ground. Asserting that the state government is giving priority to clean air, clean energy and clean transport systems, Maharashtra’s Environment Minister Pankaja Munde said India has shown the world that environmental conservation is a driver of economic development.
