The number of unincorporated establishments in the non-agriculture sector surged to over nine crore, while employment in the sector crossed the 15 crore mark for the first time during the January to March quarter of this year.
According to the Quarterly Bulletin on Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (QBUSE) released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI), the estimated number of establishments increased to 9.16 crore during the January-March period, up from 7.85 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The rural sector emerged as the primary driver of this growth, registering a notable increase of over 20 per cent, while the urban sector witnessed a growth of 12.6 per cent during the same period.
As per MOSPI, the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year witnessed significant growth in the unincorporated services sector, with strong year-on-year expansion in both the number of establishments and employment. The number of establishments increased by 24.82 per cent, while the workforce in the sector grew by 31.13 per cent. The report further highlighted that women’s workforce accounted for 29 per cent of total employment in the sector.
