The Monsoon Session of the Telangana Assembly is beginning today. Both Legislature Council and Legislature Assembly will meet later this morning. The government is expected to table the PC Ghose Commission report on the Kaleswaram project on the first day. Though the Business Advisory Committee will later decide which issues will be taken up and for how many days, the government is preparing for a debate on the 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in the local body elections.
The PC Ghose report, submitted to the State government, concluded that there were glaring lapses in the planning, execution, and maintenance of the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages of the Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation Project. Former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has already moved the High Court challenging the Commission’s findings. The opposition BRS has sought permission from the Assembly Speaker to make its own PowerPoint presentation on the project. Fertilizer shortage and relief to farmers affected due to the recent heavy rains are among others which may come for heated debates during the session.
