Monsoon Session Of Parliament Begins Today

The Monsoon session of Parliament will begin today. The session which will continue till 21st of August will have a total of 21 sittings. This is the first parliament session after Operation Sindoor. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that important legislative and other business have been identified for being taken up during this session.

 

Akashvani’s correspondent reports that during the session, seventeen Bills are expected to be taken up for discussion and passage. Important legislations including Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill – 2025, the National Sports Governance Bill – 2025 and the Merchant Shipping Bill- 2024 will be taken up.

 

The Bills of Lading Bill- 2024, The Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill- 2024, The Coastal Shipping Bill- 2024, The Indian Ports Bill-2025, The Income-tax Bill- 2025, are also likely to be taken up for discussion. Government has said it is ready to discuss important issues to be raised in Parliament. 

 

Yesterday, the government held an all party meeting to ensure smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament. The meeting was convened to seek cooperation from opposition parties for the smooth conduct of the session. Floor leaders of different political parties representing the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha attended the meeting.

 

Union Minister and Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha JP Nadda chaired the meeting in which  Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Ministers of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal and Dr L Murugan were present. Besides, Gaurav Gogoi and Pramod Tiwari from Congress, Supriya Sule from NCP-SCP, Tiruchi Siva of DMK, Ram Gopal Yadav of Samajwadi Party, T R Baalu from DMK  and Sanjay Singh  from AAP attended  the meeting.

 

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the Government is prepared and ready to discuss any other important issue on the floors of the Houses as per rules of both Houses. Talking to the media after the meeting, Mr. Rijiju said that the meeting was very constructive and the floor leaders put forth the position of their parties and the issues that they want to raise during this session.

 

 

Mr Rijiju said, Government is very much open to discussing important issues like Operation Sindoor in Parliament. Leaders of different political parties expressed their views on various issues likely to be raised during the Monsoon Session and assured the Government of providing full cooperation. When asked about the Opposition’s intent to bring up US President Donald Trump’s remarks on mediation between India and Pakistan post Operation Sindoor, the Minister said, the government will respond appropriately on the matter on the floor of the House.

 

 

Replying to a media query on Justice Varma impeachment matter, he said, the process will be undertaken together by all parties as it is not the move by the Government alone. The motion for the removal of Justice Varma has already gathered significant backing from lawmakers. Mr Rijiju said, the number of signatures of MPs for motion to remove Justice Varma has already crossed 100.

 

 

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi demanded Prime Minister Modi’s statement on the floor of the House on Trump’s claims, Pahalgam terror attack and Special Intensive Revision in Bihar. N K Premachandran of RSP said, the demand of the entire opposition today was to have a full-fledged discussion on the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor and Donald Trump’s statement regarding the ceasefire. BJD leader Sasmit Patra said, his party will raise the law and situation and atrocities against women in Odisha during the session.
