The counting of votes held peacefully for the by-elections to two Assembly seats in Gujarat today. Gopal Italia of Aam Admi Party won from the Visavadar seat with a margin of over 17 thousand votes, while the BJP has retained the Kadi seat. Rajendra Kumar Chawada of the BJP won from Kadi with a margin of more than 39 thousand votes.
The bypolls were held on Thursday, 19th June, for two Assembly seats in Gujarat, in which the Visavadar seat recorded 56.89 per cent voter turnout, and in Kadi, the turnout was 57.90 per cent. These seats fell vacant following the resignation of Bhupendra Bhayani from the Visavadar seat and the death of Karshan Solanki of Kadi. The Visavadar seat was won by AAP in 2022, but later the AAP MLA Bhupendra Bhayani had joined the BJP, which necessitated the by-elections.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress President Shaktisinh Gohil has resigned from his post, taking the moral responsibility for the party’s defeat in the bypolls
