Moldova’s Pro-EU Ruling Party PAS Wins Parliamentary Elections

Moldova’s pro-EU ruling party, the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), has won parliamentary elections. According to the official results shown today, the PAS took more than 50 percent of the vote. With over 99.5 percent of ballots counted, the PAS, led by President Maia Sandu, received 50.03 percent of the vote, compared to 24.26 percent for the pro-Russian Patriotic Bloc. President Sandu had warned of massive Russian interference yesterday after casting a vote and saying that the future of her country, flanked by Ukraine and Romania, was at stake. Four years ago, the President’s party won 52.8 percent of the vote, and based on the latest results, it is now set to clinch 54 seats. Moldova was awarded European Union candidate status in 2022.
