Mizoram: Lunglei Wins ‘Promising Swachh Shehar of Mizoram’ at Swachh Survekshan 2025

For the Mizos in Mizoram, Cleanliness is a part of their culture and tradition. During the olden days, the Mizo youth came out in large numbers almost every week and every month to clean their villages and surroundings known as ‘Hnatlangpui’. Continuing with that tradition, and government intervention in recent times, Cleanliness drives have taken a new momentum in the state of Mizoram.

Lunglei town in southern Mizoram shines bright in the recent Swachh Survekshan Award, which was held at New Delhi, bagging the honour with the ‘Promising Swachh Shehar of Mizoram Award’.

The award-handing ceremony organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) was held in New Delhi on July 17, 2025.

The cleanliness award was received by State Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) Minister K. Sapdanga, along with Lunglei Municipal Council (LMC) Vice Chairman K. Lalrinawma and other officials.

Speaking to Akashvani News, Lunglei Municipal Council (LMC) Vice Chairman K. Lalrinawma said that the Award is a recognition of the concerted efforts jointly taken up by the Municipal Council and NGO’s such as YMA, MHIP, MZP and others. He says…..
