Mizoram Govt to Review Ginger Procurement Price Amid Traders’ Reluctance To Buy

Mizoram Government is set to review the wholesale price fixed for the procurement of ginger from farmers today, following concerns that no private businesses are willing to purchase the produce at the current rates. According to official sources, the government-fixed wholesale price for ginger for the period between 2 and 7 February 2026 ranged from 40 to 45 rupees per kilogram. However, traders have reportedly expressed reluctance to buy ginger at these rates, prompting the government to reconsider the pricing.

The government generally determines the procurement price by taking into account the prevailing market rate of ginger in Siliguri, along with transportation costs. Officials stated that the pricing mechanism aims to ensure fair returns for farmers while also factoring in market realities and logistical expenses.

The government seeks to strike a balance between safeguarding farmers’ interests and maintaining the feasibility for traders.

Meanwhile, Mizoram Government has established 64 Secondary Collection Centres across the state this year to streamline ginger procurement. As per the government’s plan, a reserve or floor price for ginger will be fixed in alignment with wholesale Market (Mandi) rates in other parts of the country. The price will be reviewed and revised on a weekly basis or as deemed necessary, depending on market conditions.
