Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and BJP leader said that a proposal to improve road infrastructure between Reiek and Lengpui will move forward if a BJP candidate wins the upcoming Dampa by-election, which will be held on the 11th of next month. Speaking at a public rally at Reiek in Mizoram, Mr Rijiju emphasised that although the state currently has only two BJP MLAs, the NDA government does not discriminate between states based on party lines. He added that if the BJP forms the government in the next state assembly elections, Mizoram could become a “poster state for development” in the country.
The by-election will feature a five-way contest. Pu Lalhmingthanga is representing the BJP, while John Rotluangliana is standing for the Congress. Dr. R. Lalthangliana is contesting on the MNF ticket, Vanlalsailova runs for ZPM, and K. Zahmingthanga is the candidate for PC Party.
Preparations for the election are well underway, with 41 polling stations established throughout the constituency. Each station is expected to serve an average of 507 voters.
Dampa Constituency currently has a total of 20,790 registered voters, including 10,605 men and 10,185 women.
