Thousands of farmers in both Punjab and Haryana are unable to get the benefit of the Central government’s PM-KISAN scheme, as they have still not seeded their Aadhar cards with their bank accounts. Under the scheme, a financial benefit of 6,000 rupees per year is transferred in three equal instalments into the Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts of farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. Over 61 thousand farmers in Punjab and almost a similar number of farmers in Haryana are yet to get their Aadhar numbers linked to bank accounts to get the financial benefit.
Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ramnath Thakur, while giving this information in Lok Sabha yesterday, said that the Ministry regularly takes focused saturation drives in coordination with States and Union Territories, common Service Centres, and India Post Payments Bank to facilitate Aadhaar seeding of bank accounts. Farmers are also intimated through SMS to ensure Aadhaar seeding of their bank accounts to ensure uninterrupted disbursement of benefits under PM-KISAN.
