Ministry of Culture exchanges MoU with YouTube

Ministry of Culture today exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with YouTube in New Delhi. The MOU aims to leverage digital platforms to amplify India’s rich and diverse musical traditions worldwide. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister for Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, said that this initiative is a significant step towards preserving India’s cultural heritage and promoting traditional folk and tribal music on the global stage. The Minister said the initiative aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of Vocal for Local and Local for Global and seeks to showcase India’s traditions, heritage, and artistic legacy to international audiences. He highlighted that India’s cultural expressions, including its folk traditions and historical legacy, have the potential to strengthen the country’s global cultural presence through sustained digital outreach.

Mr Shekhawat lauded the role of YouTube in content creation and dissemination, noting that the platform has contributed significantly to the digital economy and has emerged as a means of employment and empowerment for a large number of creators. The Minister expressed confidence that the partnership will play a key role in promoting Indian folk and tribal music internationally, while also supporting artists and creators. He said the initiative will further strengthen India’s position as a cultural partner to the world and contribute to the broader objective of global cultural outreach.
