Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw today inspected ongoing developmental works at New Jalpaiguri – NJP railway station. The station is getting developed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme as a world-class railway station with all modern amenities.
This station’s development project is fully funded by the Central Government with a budget allocation of 500 crore rupees. This station is an important gateway for Nepal & Bhutan along with Bangladesh. The project will double the station’s capacity from the current 60,000 passengers per day to 1.2 lakh. This expansion is crucial for handling the growing travel demands in North Bengal and ensuring smoother, more efficient operations for commuters.
He said more than one dozen new trains in the state will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He further added that more than 101 railway stations in the state is under renovation. He said NJP railway will have more trains originating from a possible IT hub station.
Sri Vaishnav arrived today at Bagdogra Airport from New Delhi and went to NJP, from where he boarded a train for Malda to attend the Vande Bharat Sleeper and other train inauguration programmes by the Prime Minister.
