Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy urges faster exploration of critical minerals

Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy today called for accelerated exploration of critical minerals to achieve self-reliance and strengthen India’s economic growth, energy transition and technological advancement. Chairing the Governing Body meeting of the National Mineral Exploration and Development Trust in New Delhi, the Minister reviewed the Trust’s performance for the financial year 2025-26 in the presence of Minister of State for the Department of Atomic Energy, Dr Jitendra Singh. Mr Reddy directed States to fast-track ongoing exploration projects, ensure quicker approvals and improve coordination to significantly reduce exploration-to-auction timelines. He stressed the need to adopt advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, drone-based surveys and modern beneficiation techniques to enhance efficiency in mineral discovery. The Minister also emphasised greater participation of startups, private exploration agencies and innovation-driven institutions to strengthen the exploration ecosystem. 
 
During the meeting, Dr Singh highlighted the importance of strong coordination, continuous monitoring and effective follow-up mechanisms to ensure the timely execution of projects. He also called for greater integration of scientific institutions and advanced technologies into the mineral exploration value chain to accelerate outcomes.
