Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav today launched the Native Food Matters initiative at Govardhan Eco Village in Wada Taluka of Palghar district of Maharashtra.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that e-waste has become a major challenge. He praised Govardhan Eco Village for its efforts in promoting concepts like saving energy, conserving water, and showcasing a sustainable way of life. He also emphasized the importance of traditional food systems for both human health and the environment.
The Native Food Matters programme aims to bring back traditional grains such as millets into mainstream diets through community-based awareness drives like Meri Maati Meri Thaali and Poshan Sakha-Sakhi.
As part of the pilot project in Palghar, Govardhan Eco Village has already begun documenting local food varieties, mapping seasonal vegetables, and introducing a special Palghar Thali at its community café.
