In the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool, Minakshi Hooda (48kg), Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), and Nupur Sheoran (+80kg) all won their semi-final bout, securing spots in the finals and raising hopes for multiple golds.
Minakshi beat Mongolia’s Altantsetseg Lutsaikhan, Jaismine outclassed Venezuela’s Omailyn Alcala, and Nupur defeated Turkey’s Seyma Duztas.
Pooja Rani (80kg) is also through to the semi-finals and will face England’s Emily Asquith later today.
In the finals, Jaismine will meet Poland’s Julia Szeremeta, while Nupur faces Agata Kaczmarska, also from Poland.
India’s 20-member team at the inaugural World Boxing Championships under the new World Boxing governing body has shown promise, but faced setbacks. Commonwealth Games champion Nikhat Zareen was eliminated, while Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain suffered a second-round exit in the women’s 75kg.
None of the Indian male boxers reached the medal rounds.
