Prime Minister of Mauritius Navinchandra Ramgoolam will undertake a state visit to India from 9th to 16th of this month. Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal said, this will be the first overseas bilateral visit of Mr Ramgoolam to India in his current term. He said, during this visit, apart from Delhi, the Prime Minister of Mauritius will also visit Mumbai, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Tirupati.
On a media question on protests in Australia against Indians, Mr Jaiswal said that anti-immigrant protests happened in many cities across Australia on 31st August and the Indian High Commissioner and Consulate Generals are in regular touch with the Australian government as also with the community members in this regard. He said, many senior leaders and politicians both from the Australian government side and also from the opposition side, have issued statements supporting the multicultural identity of Australia.
The Spokesperson said, Government of India remains committed to securing the welfare and well-being of all Indians abroad, and it is in touch with the Australian Government, as also with the diaspora organisation in Australia.
Responding to a media query on US President Donald Trump’s latest post on Truth Social stating, Mr Jaiswal said, MEA has no comments to offer on it .
On a query on Quad summit, he said, Quad is a valuable forum for discussion on shared interests in a number of areas and the Leaders’ Summit is scheduled through diplomatic consultations among the four partners.
On the comments of White House trade advisor Peter Navarro, Mr Jaiswal said, MEA has seen the inaccurate and misleading statements made by Mr Navarro and reject it.
He said, the relationship between the United States and India is very important. Both the countries share a comprehensive global strategic partnership, which is anchored in the shared interests, democratic values and robust people-to-people ties. Mr Jaiswal said, this partnership has weathered several transitions and challenges.
He said, India remain focused on the substantive agenda that the two countries have committed to and hoped that the relationship will continue to move forward based on mutual respect and shared interests. He also drew attention to a joint military exercise between India and the US which is underway in Alaska.
On a query on leaders of India and China meeting on the sidelines of SCO Summit, the Spokesperson said, leader level meetings were held between India and China and Prime Minister Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping. He said, both leaders welcomed the positive momentum and steady progress in relations.
On a question on Ukraine, Mr Jaiswal said, India welcomes all the recent efforts towards establishing peace in Ukraine. He said, India hopes that all parties will proceed ahead constructively. The Spokesperson said, India supports an early end of the conflict and the establishment of an enduring peace.
On BRICS summit, Mr Jaiswal said, the Brazilian chair of BRICS has called for a virtual meeting on 8th of this month and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will participate in it.
On Afghanistan, the Spokesperson said, India has longstanding ties with the people of Afghanistan and India continues to support the aspirations and developmental needs of the Afghan people. He said, India continue to have engagements with Afghan authorities.
On flood data sharing with Pakistan, Mr Jaiswal said, India has been sharing high flood data with Pakistan through diplomatic channels as and when required. He said, this sharing of information is happening through the Indian High Commission.
