Veteran Marathi actress Daya Dongre passed away yesterday at the age of 85 following an age-related illness. She was born on 11th March 1940, in Amravati, Maharashtra. Her mother, Yamunatai Modak, was an actress. Initially inclined toward music, Dongre gained early recognition after winning an All-India Radio singing competition.
She began her career in acting as a teenager and even studied at the National School of Drama. After marriage, she continued acting and gained acclaim for her performances in Marathi TV serials such as Tuzhi Majhi Jodi Jamli Re, Nanda Saukhya Bhare, Yachasathi Kela Hota Atthahas, and Lekure Udand Jali. Over the years, Dongre became a prominent name in Marathi theatre and films.
