In Chhattisgarh, a Maoist was killed in an encounter between police and Maoists in the forest area along the Dantewada-Bijapur border. The killed Maoist has been identified as Rajesh Punem, an Area Committee Member of the Bhairamgarh Area Committee of the Maoist organisation. A reward of five lakh rupees had been announced for him.
Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai said that information was received about Maoists hiding weapons in the forest between the villages of Gumalnar, Girsapara and Nelgoda under the Gidam police station limits. Following the input, personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Bastar Fighters were dispatched to the area.
During the operation, Maoists opened fire on the security forces. The jawans retaliated, and one Maoist was killed.
