Manipur: Two-Day Sangai Conservation Workshop Kicks Off at Keibul Lamjao

In Manipur, a two-day State Level Workshop cum Awareness Programme on Conservation of Sangai, its Environmental and Sustainable Development was kicked off at Keibul Lamjao Chingmei Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district.
 
 
The programme is being organised by the Society for Sangai and Nature Conservation Keibul Lamjao in collaboration with I.B.S.D, Imphal, Department of Bio-Technology, Government of India, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, Forest Department, Government of Manipur and Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur. 
 
 
The Sangai is an endemic and endangered subspecies of Eld’s deer found only in Manipur, and it is also the State animal of Manipur.  The floating marshy grasslands of the Keibul Lamjao National Park located in Loktak Lake of Bishnupur district is the natural habitat of the brow-antlered deer or Eld’s deer.
