Manipur Police Appeal to Citizens to Maintain Peace, Refrain from Violence

Manipur Police have appealed to all law-abiding citizens of the state to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and harmony, and to refrain from violence, destruction of public property, and other unlawful activities.

Addressing a press conference in Imphal today, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Imphal West district, Ksh. Shivakanta Singh said, over the past few days, torch rallies have been taking place in various parts of Imphal and during several such events, anti-social elements posing as protesters have engaged in violent activities, including the use of petrol bombs, catapults fitted with iron pellets, and stone pelting at security forces. He further said that security forces have observed that some protesters were under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants.

He added that there are inputs suggesting that certain instigators are supplying petrol and kerosene bombs, catapults, and iron pellets ahead of these rallies. Despite such provocations, he said, security forces have exercised maximum restraint to avoid collateral damage while dispersing crowds.

The officer said concerned agencies are carrying out their lawful duties and warned that legal action will be taken against those involved in violence, as well as those instigating such acts. He once again urged citizens to extend full cooperation to maintain peace in the state.
