The 26th World Sight Day was widely observed across Manipur today under the global theme “Love Your Eyes”, focusing on the promotion of eye health and prevention of visual impairment.
The state level observance was held at District Hospital chandel, jointly organised by the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI), State Health Society, National Health Mission and Directorate of Health services in collaboration with District Health Society, Chandel.
Dr. N. Hemanta Kumar, Director of Health Services, Manipur and Chief Medical Officer, Chandel were among the distinguished guests present at the observance. As part of the observance, a mega free eye and cataract screening camp was held, where free spectacles were distributed to senior citizens diagnosed with short-sightedness.
A total of 36 cataract cases and 18 pterygium cases were detected during the camp for further treatment and follow-up care. The programme effectively raised public awareness on the importance of regular eye check-up, the need for early detection and prevention of visual impairment.
