In Manipur, at least 10 suspected militants were killed in a gunfight with Assam Rifles personnel in Chandel district last evening. The incident took place at New Somtal village under Khengjoi tehsil, which is situated near the Indo-Myanmar border.
According to the Army’s Eastern Command, the encounter took place when an Assam Rifles unit conducted an operation following specific intelligence inputs about the movement of armed cadres in the area.
The Eastern Command said in a post on X that during the operation, troops came under fire from suspected militants and responded swiftly. In the ensuing exchange of fire, 10 cadres were neutralised and a sizable quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered.
Sources from Assam Rifles said that the operation has almost complete,d and dead bodies have been kept for further identification. There is no report of casualties among the security forces.
