Manipur experiences heavy rain, hailstorms and strong winds

In Manipur, heavy rain accompanied by hailstorms and strong winds affected several parts of the state today, damaging houses and property across multiple districts. Manipur has been witnessing adverse weather since last night. Heavy rain, hailstorms and gusty winds have been reported from Tamenglong district, Noney district, Bishnupur district, Thoubal district, Imphal East district and Kakching district. 
 
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, in a social media post, said the state government has instructed all concerned officials to remain on high alert and take immediate coordinated measures to assist affected people. Relief and response teams have been directed to ensure that essential assistance and basic necessities reach those in need without delay.
 
In the Noney district, about 38 houses and school buildings in Soubunglong Part I and Part II were completely damaged by the hailstorm. Affected families have taken shelter in community halls and church buildings. Reports of house damage were also received from several villages in the district.
 
Trees were uprooted and electric poles damaged at many places in Tamenglong and Noney, disrupting road connectivity and power supply. In the valley districts of Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Imphal East, rain and hailstorms also caused significant damage to agricultural crops.
 
Around ten houses were damaged in the Thoubal district, while nearly 30 houses were affected in several villages of the Kakching district.
 
The weather department has issued an orange alert, warning that thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds and moderate rain are likely to occur across all districts of Manipur tonight.
