Maharashtra’s economy is expected to grow at 7.9% in 2025-26, a steady rise from 7.3% in the last fiscal year. According to the State’s Economic Survey that was tabled in the Maharashtra state assembly today, services, industry, agriculture, infrastructure and finance sectors continue to show stable growth momentum despite global and domestic challenges. The survey also noted that Maharashtra accounted for the highest share of 14% of the country’s nominal GDP in 2024-25, highlighting the state’s significant contribution to the national economy.
The service sector, led by financial, real estate and professional services expected to grow around 9%. It projects the industrial sector to grow at 5.7% and agriculture and allied activities at 3.4% during the year. As per the survey, Maharashtra received 109.1% of normal rainfall, benefiting crop production across several regions. The report also highlighted growth in allied agricultural activities, noting that the state ranks fifth in the country in milk production with a 6.7% share. On the fiscal front, the government has maintained the fiscal deficit within 3%. The state’s revenue receipts are estimated at five lakh 60 thousand and 964 crore rupees in 2025-26, while revenue expenditure is projected at six lakh, six thousand and 855 crore rupees.
In terms of social development, 8 lakh 75 thousand houses in urban areas and over 16 lakh houses in rural areas were built in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Under the Jal Jeevan Abhiyan, more than 90% of the families have been provided with piped water connections. Out of 40,247 villages in the state, 34,584 villages have been declared ODF+ under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Gramin).
According to the economic survey, Maharashtra’s per capita income for 2025-26 is estimated at three lakh 47, 903, a rise of thirty thousand from last year. Retaining its position as India’s premier investment destination, Maharashtra attracted 31% of foreign direct investment. The state’s renewable energy capacity has also increased to 14,113 megawatts, strengthening its journey towards clean and reliable power.
The survey report was presented in the state assembly by the Minister of State for Finance and Planning Adv. Ashish Jaiswal and Minister of State Pankaj Bhoyar in the Legislative Council. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will present the state budget tomorrow.
