In Khelo India Youth Games, the excellent performance of Maharashtra’s players continued today, and they added more medals to the tally. With 73 medals, including 27 gold and 22 silver, in its kitty, the Maharashtra team has held the top position in the medal tally. Karnataka is second in the table with 39 medals, including 14 gold, while Rajasthan is in third place with 23 medals.
In the weightlifting 49-kilogram class, Harshvardhan Sahu of Odisha set the new record of the Khelo India Youth Games with gold in the clean and jerk category, lifting 115 kilograms. He surpassed the previous record of Babulal Hembrom of Jharkhand of 114 kilograms.
Sahu beat Niklesh Lakra of Jharkhand in this category. Jyoshana Sabar of Odisha, who belongs to a small village in the Gajapati district, clinched gold in 40 kilograms. Dharshini Priya from Puducherry got silver in this category.
After demonstrating their mastery in swimming and shooting, Maharashtra’s players have continued their magical performance in other sports like table tennis and weightlifting as well.
Today, several medals were decided in table tennis, weightlifting, Sepak Takraw, and swimming.
In table tennis, Kavya Bhatt of Maharashtra impressed everyone with her game.
In the girls’ singles event, she won the gold medal, and together with her partner Divyanshi Bhaumik, she also secured a gold medal for her state in the doubles event.
Kavya, from Akola, defeated M. Hansini of Tamil Nadu four-one in the table tennis match.
In the boys’ singles match, Priyanuj Bhattacharya of Assam defeated P. B. Abhinand of Tamil Nadu to win the gold medal.
