In Maharashtra, Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra S. Chockalingam today announced the programme for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. At a press conference he said the verification of details of around 98.6 million voters will be conducted through more than one lakh field-level officers between 20th of next month and 7th October.
From 20 to 29 June, printing of enumeration forms and training of these officers will be completed. Details of voters from the previous Special Intensive Revision conducted between 2002 and 2004 will be pre-filled in these forms. From 30 June to 29 July, officials will visit the homes of every voter to collect enumeration forms and verify the information provided.
The draft electoral rolls will be published on 5 August. Claims and objections may be filed between 5 August and 4 September, and these will be disposed of by 3 October. The final electoral roll will be published on 7 October.
Chief Electoral Officer S. Chockalingam assured that the entire process will be conducted in a fully transparent manner across the state, and no eligible voter’s name will be removed without due verification.
