Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat has said that excessive use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides has rendered fertile land barren, making natural and traditional organic farming the only viable option to restore soil health and ensure sustainable farmer incomes.
Addressing a farmers’ programme in Mohadi, the Governor said rising chemical use has destroyed soil microorganisms, reduced water retention and posed serious health risks. He urged the agriculture department and institutions to actively promote natural farming and cattle rearing.
Marking the first day of the New Year, Acharya Devvrat stayed overnight at an ashram school in Pimperkhed and shared a meal with a tribal family, saying he preferred being among farmers rather than at Raj Bhavan. Citing Gujarat’s Dang district as a model, he expressed confidence that Maharashtra would soon see widespread adoption of traditional organic farming.
