Maharashtra Government asked to address Flamingo Habitat issues in wetlands

The Centre has asked the Maharashtra government to urgently address concerns over the deterioration of flamingo habitats in Navi Mumbai wetlands. Climate activists have flagged that key wetlands at Nerul have turned toxic, affecting areas linked to the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary (TCFS), a Ramsar site.

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has directed the Maharashtra State Wetland Authority to take action and submit a report, citing the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2017, that prohibit dumping of waste and ecological damage.
