Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said that civic elections across the state will be held on time and as per the Supreme Court’s directions. Speaking to reporters in Pune, Mr. Fadnavis said the government will seek an extension of 15-20 days from the Election Commission in case the Monsoon is intense in some regions.
The Chief Minister stated that the Mahayuti alliance – comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP – will contest the upcoming elections together. The BJP leader, however, added that in certain wards where seat-sharing is not feasible, some candidates may contest independently. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had directed the Maharashtra Government to hold civic polls within four months.
Mr. Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde were in Pune to take part in workshop of Civic Commissioners and Municipal Council Chiefs. Stating that the Mahayuti Government is committed to bringing in administrative reforms, Mr. Fadnavis said the workshop is a step towards a more transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric governance system.
