International Women’s Day was celebrated across Maharashtra with enthusiasm under this year’s theme, ‘give to gain’, with several activities organised across districts and talukas.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde launched an HPV vaccination campaign and ‘Pink OPD’ in Mumbai. In Latur and Nanded, the HPV vaccination campaign was launched. More than 20,000 girls aged 14 years or less will receive the Gardasil-4 vaccine free of cost.
In Dombivli, 9,111 women and girls from Dombivli and Kalyan set a Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous Lezim dance performance at Savalaram Maharaj Sports Complex, surpassing the previous record of 7,338 participants.
In Jalgaon, women who have made notable contributions in various fields were felicitated. In Yavatmal, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dhule, the Asmita Women’s League athletics competition were organised.
In Gondia, a women’s bike rally was held under the slogan “Respect for Her, Pride of Gondia”, with many participants riding in traditional Nauvari sarees.
In Mumbai, two stations of Metro Line 3 – Marol Naka and CSMT – were operated entirely by women staff, with 85 women employees managing all operations in shifts. In Beed, hundreds of women, from schoolgirls to senior citizens, participated enthusiastically in a Women’s Marathon.
In Sangli, under the Girl Empowerment initiative, about 15,000 school girls received self-defence training and were awarded Yellow Belts. In Nagpur, the Municipal Corporation organised a Pink Marathon at Yashwant Stadium.
