Maharashtra Celebrates 150 Years of Vande Mataram with Statewide Events

Maharashtra today observed the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram with large-scale events across the state.

At a ceremony held at the state secretariat in Mumbai, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Vande Mataram, penned by Bankimchandra Chatterjee in 1875, became the soul of country’s freedom struggle, uniting people across caste, religion and language. He called upon citizens to re-dedicate themselves to the ideals of development and heritage as India is moving towards Viksit Bharat.

Government offices, schools and cultural institutions across the city celebrated 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram. Mumbai University hosted a event with students, faculty and artists joining in the collective rendition. In the neighbouring districts, Thane and Palghar held coordinated programmes in schools and public grounds. Raigad reported enthusiastic participation in Alibag and Panvel, where community groups and students displayed tableaux on country’s freedom movement. The largest turnout was recorded in Solapur, where over 10 thousand students from nearly 45 schools and colleges assembled for a grand chorus of Vande Mataram.

In Nashik, more than five thousand participants joined the morning recital at the district stadium. The commemorative programme, held simultaneously across Maharashtra, was coordinated by the Departments of Culture and Skill Development to mark 150 years of Bankimchandra Chatterjee’s iconic national song. The day’s events reflected a spirit of unity and national pride as citizens across the state came together to celebrate one of country’s most enduring symbols of patriotism.
