BJP’s Maharashtra unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Saturday challenged the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to make it clear whether it will provide reservation to the Maratha community from the existing OBC quota. He was addressing a press conference in Mumbai. In the backdrop of ongoing tensions between the Maratha and OBC communities on the reservation issue, he dared the MVA to include this as a promise in its manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections in the state. The Maratha community must get reservation, he said, but not at the cost of OBCs, which has been the BJP’s stand. He blamed former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray for failing to maintain the reservation given to the Maratha community by his predecessor, Devendra Fadnavis, which was scrapped by the Apex Court. Shri Bawankule also criticized the MVA by saying that if they come to power, they will scrap various welfare schemes announced by the Mahayuti (Grand Coalition government) in the state.
