Maharashtra: 13 killed, 20 injured in tempo-truck collision in Palghar district

At least 13 people were killed, and 20 others were critically injured in a road accident involving a truck carrying a marriage party and a container in  Dhanivari in Palghar district of Maharashtra this afternoon. The number of casualties is likely to increase. According to initial information, more than 100 people were travelling in the truck. The injured are being treated at Kasa Subdistrict Hospital. Preliminary investigations suggest the tempo was carrying passengers way beyond its capacity. Excessive speed, a narrow stretch of the road, and the tempo driver losing control of the vehicle are suspected to be the primary causes behind the crash.
Maharashtra Government has announced a financial assistance of five lakh rupees for the families of victims who lost their lives in the tragic accident that took place on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway in Maharashtra’s Palghar district early this evening.

President Droupadi Murmu has expressed grief at the loss of lives in the road accident. In a social media post, the President expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the early recovery of those injured in the accident.
