Lt. Governor Kavinder Gupta Chairs Security Review as Leh, Kargil Observe Shutdown Post Protests

Following the violent incidents and protests in Leh, the situation remained normal and under control today. 
 
As the restrictions were put in place by the district administration of Leh today, the situation on the ground remained normal and under control. No unwanted incidents were reported today in Leh. The business establishment and all educational institutions were closed in Leh today for safety and security purposes. 

The restrictions were imposed in Leh after the violent protests erupted in support of the demand to advance the proposed talks with the centre on the extension of the 6th schedule as well as statehood for Ladakh. In district Kargil, similar types of restrictions were imposed to maintain law and order in the district. The order was issued by the District Magistrate Kargil, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita BNSS 2023.

Shops, Markets, Transport and business establishments remained closed, bringing life to a standstill across the district. Lt. Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess the emerging situation across Ladakh, emphasising the need for heightened vigilance, seamless inter-agency coordination and proactive measures to safeguard peace, security and Public order across the Union Territory.
