LS Speaker Om Birla Calls for Meaningful Debate in Legislatures

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has hoped that the Legislatures remain platforms where meaningful discussions, debates are held on issues of public importance, where informed and productive decisions are taken for social and national good. He was speaking at the valedictory session of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s 11th India region Conference in Bengaluru today. The Speaker noted that the two days Conference discussed best practices and processes that can help achieve this objective. He added that political parties and the legislators will be taken into confidence to achieve this objective. 
 
 
Om Birla noted that legislators must be made accountable, transparency must increase and the information of the business transactions and decisions taken in the House must reach the people. He informed that library, research and reference units in the Parliament will be improved for the members to utilise them and improve their standard of debates. He spoke about gaining public trust and strengthening Parliamentary Democracy.
 
 
He called upon the Parliamentarians to rise above their political affiliations, to actively participate in the policy making exercise for social good. He called upon the media to disseminate information on the positive outputs of the legislators for the benefit of people. He hoped that the legislatures work in this direction to make Viksit Bharat a reality by 2047.
