Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today paid tribute to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay on his death anniversary.

In a social media post, Mr Birla said that in the form of Vande Mataram, he gave not merely a song, but a great mantra of worship for Mother India, which wove the entire nation into a single thread and infused the freedom struggle with new consciousness.

The Lok Sabha Speaker described Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay as a great patriot, a fierce nationalist thinker, and an immortal litterateur of Indian consciousness.

Mr Birla added that through an immortal work like Anandamath, the divine light of devotion, sacrifice, and national duty kindled for the motherland will continue to illuminate the Indian psyche for ages to come.
