Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today met First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia, Vladimir Yakushev and members of the Russian Parliamentary delegation at Parliament House in Delhi. They exchanged views on cooperation in areas such as trade, technology and cultural linkages, along with strengthening parliamentary ties. In a social media post, Mr Birla said India and Russia share a deep-rooted and time-tested strategic partnership, built on trust and mutual respect. He added that inter-parliamentary engagement continues to serve as an important pillar of cooperation, fostering mutual understanding and stronger democratic institutions. The Speaker expressed optimism towards further advancing parliamentary engagement and strengthening people-to-people connections. Mr Yakushev also met Deputy Speaker of Rajya Sabha, Harivansh. Mr Harivansh said in a social media post that he reaffirmed India-Russia’s strong parliamentary ties and shared commitment to deepen cooperation across sectors.
